Distinctive
Baptists and Other Churches
The things that Baptists adhere to are believed by may other Christians also. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All men should seek God above all else in life. However, Baptists strongly believe in the right of every individual to make his own spiritual decisions. Therefore, no church or government should force people concerning religious faith and practice. It is important to understand that no man and no church has the power to forgive sins or redeem man from sin. Only Jesus Christ has this power.
Since all have sinned, those who do not accept Christ as Savior will one day face Him as Judge. In the life that is beyond this life, those who have not accepted Christ as Savior will be forever separated from Him. For this reason, Jesus says to every man: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness...”
CBAP Statement of Distinction
CBAP holds an historic, biblical position concerning baptism and the gifts of the Holy Spirit and stands distinct from those movements that are characterized as Pentecostal, neo-Pentecostal or charismatic. Baptism of the Spirit happens the moment a person trusts in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. Conservative Baptists reject the view that speaking in tongues is evidence of conversion. On the contrary, they regard speaking in tongues as least among the spiritual gifts. They do not subscribe to public healing meetings and excessive body movements in worship service. Convinced of the preeminence of Scripture in shaping the theology and practice of the Church, the Conservative Baptists do away with biblically questionable practices like being slain in the Spirit, prophetic visioning and holy laughter.
